On April 30, the technology manufacturer hosted a brainstorming session with the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts entitled “Imagine the World in 2050.”

During the event, five IBM researchers met with students, alumni and other entertainment execs to discuss how fictional science and technology applications might turn into real-world solutions.
IBM indicates the event was the starting point for a unique research project that explores nanotechnology, digital imaging, predictive software, and future environment, medical and intelligence technologies.
In addition to new applications, IBM expects the project may help generate new movie or television scripts.
